Interior of Nieuwe Kerk, Delft

Хендрик Корнелис ван Влит
Artist: Hendrick Cornelisz. van Vliet (1611/1612–1675) Alternative names: Hendrik Cornelisz. van der Vliet Dutch painter and draughtsman Work period: from 1632 until 1675 Work location: Delft Title: Interior of Nieuwe Kerk, Delft Object type: Painting Description: Church interiors became a separate genre in Holland in the seventeenth century. In Hendrick Cornelisz van Vliet’s painting the church space seems almost like a town square. People gather, look at objects, and let their dogs run loose; a meeting-place rather than a space for religious reverence. At the same time the interior of the church is an expression of the religious conditions in Holland. It is painted white in accordance with the notions of the Reformation, and, as far as one can tell, stripped of images. Date: Unknown date Medium: Oil on wood Dimensions: Height: 41 cm (16.1 in). Width: 39 cm (15.4 in). Framed: Height: 59 cm (23.2 in). Width: 57 cm (22.4 in). Depth: 6 cm (2.4 in).
